My Monday Afternoon

It is such a beautiful autumn afternoon in North Carolina! I am on the patio enjoying the sunshine and blue sky with my dog, Ellie.
I went to Holly Hill Cemetery earlier, where my Dad is buried, this afternoon, and fed the ducks and swans at the pond there. 
I stopped by Dollar General for a couple of Halloween cards for letter-writing friends that I correspond with, a blank journal to write in, a pad of paper for watercolor painting, some sweet orange essential oil, and a phone card for my prepaid cell phone. 
Once I got home, Ellie and I went to the mailbox. The new issue of The Letter Exchange came today! I'd been anticipating it coming. 
I got a glass of iced peppermint green tea, and Ellie and I have been outside ever since. 
The mandarin slices that I have been drying are ready to take in today. I think I will dry more apple slices next, and maybe a little pineapple.

Thomasville Public Library Adult Summer Reading Program and Book Sale

 Yesterday was the first day to sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Program at the Thomasville Public Library, and so I did. There are weekly prize drawings, scavenger hunts in the library for additional prizes, free movies, free craft classes, and book clubs. There will be a kickoff party for all of the summer reading programs (adult and children) on June 15.  While I was there, I also went to the library's current book sale, which runs through June 15. I found a Great Courses class on Suspense and Mystery Fiction Writing for $3!

Thursday Afternoon at Walgreens

Yesterday afternoon my dog Ellie and I took my mom to Walgreens on Julian Avenue here in Thomasville for a 230 appointment for a flu vaccine. She was inside for a really long time. She wasn't given ANY of the normal paperwork they are legally obligated to give regarding any vaccine that you are given, let alone a receipt. She said they told her that there was a glitch in their online system, and they couldn't see any information that people had put online, so she had to fill it out again. She also said that she heard the pharmacy staff tell people that it would be a 16 hour wait for any prescriptions that were dropped off, and that at least 2 customers told her that they were moving their prescriptions to other pharmacies. At the same time they were making vaccination customers with scheduled appointments wait over an hour, the pharmacy staff said that your appointment was cancelled if you weren't already there at the exact minute of your appointment time. My Dad's Birthday (born February 17, 1937) (Delmer Thomas Green)

 My Dad would have been 89 today. Earlier today, my terrier (my girl Ellie) and I took spring flowers in hues of blues and purples (his favorite colors) to his grave at Holly Hill Memorial Park. They were playing instrumental piano and guitar music thru the Bell Tower there today, which is near my Dad's grave. He would LOVE that, as my Dad was a very talented pianist and organist.  One of my favorite memories about my Dad dates from the 1990s, when we were both antique hunting and had a booth in a local antique mall. We had gone to the Metrolina antique and flea market event one weekend, and while we were there, my Dad noticed a baby grand piano from the Rockefeller estate that one of the antique dealers had on display there. My Dad asked the man if he could play it, and the man seemed delighted, and said, "Please do." So my Dad started playing. The first song was a Gershwin standard.
